What a 1st week for the NFL! A total of 10 underdogs found ways to beat the spread and/or outright win their games. We saw everything from an iced kick turned to a huge miss, Patriots winning the division before they even play their first game, and even seeing some salsa dancing after a 721 day drought!
With that said, the 3GTS staff also witnessed some surprise outcomes. Below are our overall Pick’em standings from week 1:
Week 2 Preview:
With 2 games debuting “NEW” stadiums, a couple of Wild Card rematches, and probably the weakest Monday Night game in 2016… Looks like we are being setup to pick’em all correct! Below we give you our “Lock” of the Week.
Lock of the Week:
Pittsburgh (-3.5) vs Cincinnati: My Lock of the week is the Steelers. They looked as dominant as expected last week against the Redskins. Even though it’s a divisional game, I think they are a much better team than the Bengals and should handle them easily. Get used to seeing big numbers out of AB and Big Ben. Road to the Super Bowl could go through Pittsburgh this year.
As a *bonus*, I’ll give you an upset pick of the week! My pick is the Tampa Bay Bucs hanging close and possibly winning outright against the Cardinals. Jameis Winston and Mike Evans could be one of the top QB/WR combos of 2016. I think this could turn into a shootout, with the last team to score coming out on top. 6.5 seems a little high for me, so take the points.
JoseOle’s Makes Mo’nae:
Houston (-2.5) vs Kansas City: Alright… So my strategy was off its rocker last week and I went 0-3 on it… This time, I’ll focus on one game which I am putting up my own jelly-beans on a site. I hope (if you decide to follow me) that i can afford a shiny new toy at the end of the year doing this!
Although they both struggled with “bad” teams, i believe in the upside of the Texans new faces over the confused old faces at KC. Speed is going to be key for the Texans as the new additions brought it last week against the Bears. Lamar Miller’s 117 yards from scrimmage on 32 touches was nice, i looked at the HOU vs. CHI as a warm up for the Texan win this weekend!
“Show me the Mo’nae”.
Chicago (-3) vs Philadelphia: My picks were as bad as they could come last week, let’s get that out of the way!! With 10 underdog teams overcoming the spreads last week, it was a tough week to predict for anyone, and my lesson learned is to use my intuition more than what Vegas tries to “dictate” as the line. This week, I am doing just that. Despite Chicago losing by 9 points to Houston and Philadelphia coming away with a 19 point win over Cleveland, I see this game being a reversal this week for both teams. Chicago, despite a shaky second half performance last week, will be home under the prime time lights and will have the luxury of having a week of game film to analyze over Carson Wentz’s performance from week 1, where he dropped back 37 times, threw for 278 yards and punched in 2 passing TD’s in his NFL debut. Wentz didn’t appear to ever get rattled or unnerved at home in Philadelphia. This coming Monday will be a totally different test, against a team other than lowly Cleveland, in a city that will not be giving him any brotherly love as he drops back to pass.
